This is a submission in respect of the Wexford Constituency as an elected representative on Wexford County Council.

Firstly, I would ask that the Electoral Commission avoids breaching the County Boundary of Wexford. From 1921 to date, save for a period between 1960 and 1981 whereby a portion of the Bunclody area and its hinterland was transferred into the Carlow Kilkenny Constituency, the County of Wexford has remained intact as one Constituency. While the current population of County Wexford might not permit us to remain as a five seat constituency, I would ask that you prioritize preserving the County Boundary of Wexford as part of your considerations and avoid moving any part of Wexford into a Constituency outside of County Wexford.

Secondly, I would ask that the Commission gives due consideration to the fact that, as recently as 2019, the vast majority of the Kilmuckridge and Enniscorthy Electoral District were both in the same “Enniscorthy Electoral District” which stretched from Bunclody to Blackwater and incorporated the majority of both the current Enniscorthy and Kilmuckridge Districts. Given the longstanding ties between these Districts, I request that both of these areas in full be placed in the same Dail Constituency.
