Hello,
I would like to suggest that Dáil constituencies be larger, with constituencies having five TDs where possible. This is to better represent the views of the population, as smaller constituencies favour larger parties. This can lead to a democratic deficit in constituencies with fewer TDs.
I would also like to suggest a referendum in order to increase the maximum potential population of a constituency and simultaneously increase the number of TDs allowed per constituency (potentially 6-8 per constituency). This would allow better democratic representation, as larger parties would no longer be favoured due to a small number of TDs per constituency. At the same time this would maintain the current number of TDs, as constituencies could have a higher population.
Kind Regards,
