Thank you for your communication with An Coimisiún Toghcháin.  

At the outset we need to inform you that, while An Coimisiún Toghcháin has been designated as a Competent Authority for implementation of Regulation 2024/900 in Ireland it is not the Competent Authority for all [spaces] where political advertising is placed. Those [spaces] for which An Coimisiún is the Competent Authority are set out here.

An Coimisiún has no responsibility regarding the content of, or any micro-targeting in, political advertising.  Nor does An Coimisiún have responsibility for political advertising placed on Very Large Online Platforms [VLOPS] or Very Large Online Social Media Engines [VLOSES].  Therefore, if your complaint is about the above matters An Comisiún will not be in a position to deal with it and therefore no further action will be taken on your complaint. If you have any concerns regarding content you might wish to contact the candidate(s) or party(ies) who placed the advertising. If your concern is about micro-targeting you might wish to contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, and if it as about VLOPS or VLOSES you might contact Comisiún na Meán.

If your complaint is within An Coimisiún’s area of responsibility we will examine it and endeavour to contact you with our response within 3 working days.  If we require any further information from you we will contact you within that timeframe.
